You know at the end of the week you sometimes have a little bit of capsicum a little bit of pumpkin etc left over from the week before or maybe a little bit of yogurt?
And what can happen is that you go shopping to get your groceries, load up your fridge thinking I will use that left over bit of capsicum. But it gets pushed back in the fridge and we forget about it until you discover it all mouldy and gross!
Well this is where you need an eat first section in the fridge. Not only do I make sure I incorporate those left over little bits into my meal plan that week but I also pop them into one section in my fridge usually in a clear container so I can see it. But being all together in one section I know that I need to use this first before I open a new one.
Or if there is something that will go off soon like yogurt etc I put it in this section to so that I know to use that at the start of the week so that it doesn't go off and end up in the bin.
Having a section in your fridge like this makes it so much easier to see what you have and what you need to use. It is easy to forget ingredients that you have when you can't see them.
It doesn't need to be a huge section it can even be a spot on the door or one container if that is all you have left over. But keep it in the same spot so you always know that it is the eat first section.
Give it a go and see if helps you to reduce your food waste and reduce your grocery bills by not throwing lots of unused food out. No one wants that gross spinach at the bottom of the fridge.
